I have done this for our kids as up until the age of 18 they can have Dual Citizenship. If your son arrives & departs on Indo Passport u can bypass the need for VOA for your son & he is exempt from Fiscal on departure as under 18.

The only time we had tried to seperate on arrival as my daughter did not have Indo passport, when my wife was handing her over an Airport Offical grabbed us & took us to their office where he took our passports with my $25 US for visa & returned with passports processed & away we went. My daughter was staying for 5 weeks so had a 60 day visa already. Another option is VIP VOA, but that can get exspensive.

I have also heard that partners & kids can go thru the ASEAN/Indo side with their spouse, but Indo's cannot go thru foreign side. However we have never tested this.

Not sure where you are but Perth consulate can issue Indo passport in 2 weeks.
