Hi Steph, hotels only give you 2 small bottle of water that really dont go far. I usually stock up for everything at Hardys. I have a driver in Sanur so I use him for a big shop when I arrive, water, nibbles, flyspray, toothpaste, tissues etc. Hardys is about a 10 minutes stroll from the Griya so do not want to carry all that shopping. Hardys also have clothing, shoes etc on the first floor (theri 2nd), great shoe sales, I can never resist. To restock on water I go to the Circle K, turn left from the Griya, on the beach path and 5 mins stroll you will find. Great if the kids would like an ice cream. I sometimes get a tuna roll there for lunch. All freshly made. If you continue past there you will find restaurants and the Sindhu market. I always go the stalls at the very back of the market, Widia, who will bargain to a good price. Further on is the Beach Cafe, great food. If you want a warung, just past the Besakih, to the left on the beach path is Warung Kumi Sami (haven't eaten there recently though).
Are you at the Griya for Nyepi? I was there year before last and dinner was a magnificent buffet at a fixed price (can't remember the price but certainly cheaper than the Ramayana was last year). Dinner will be served in the Gallery and as it is not seen from the beach dinner can be later. The food at the Griya is great. Which type of rooms do you have? This hotel has changed a lot in the last 12 months. Definitely a favourite of mine but becoming expensive.
There is a restuarant nearby that does cultural dances but they are really geared to the tourists. Ubud would probably be better for a cultural dance. Try this website http://www.whatsupbali.com/dance.html I haven't looked on it recently but it used to the dates for dances and where. If it still mentions the Penjori in Sanur, that is the one I mentioned previously.
Ramayana and Robinsons in Denpasar are great for childrens clothes and shoes for us. Last trip I bought some great homy peds at Robinsons for 70% off. The other place I got some great bargains (and I was the only westerner there) was at Erlangga, Jln Nusa Kambangan No 28 Denpasar, a fixed price shop. I hope this has been of some help to you. Caio Stormy
