accom similar to Kumala (is that about $40-$60 per night?) Try Santosa Hotel in Senggigi, or Windy Cottages in Mangsit - they are around that price range. If you can afford to go up a bit, I would recommend Qunci Villa Hotel in Mangsit - around US100 per night tho.
OR, if you can get in, try to get one of only three bungalows right on the beach at Beach Club Senggigi.
Plenty to do in Lombok - do a waterfall tour. Your hotel can arrange, or talk to one of the many tourist information booths you will see around. Also day trip to the Gili islands is well worth it.
Lombok is around the same price as Bali, although you will notice the exchange rate is around 200 or 300 rupiah less to the dollar.
The people are really friendly, although the touts can be a bit annoying in Senggigi. They still sell on the streets there, like the old days in Bali, you get used to dodging them.
