We have been to Lombok twice, to Kuta and Desert point. We are a family of surfers so go to the places with surf. We hire a car in Bali and go over on the ferry from Pandang Bai, around 490,000rp. We are a family and are usually travelling with 4 of us so the car and ferry are a cheaper option for us than flying.
In Kuta we stay at a place called surfers inn, nice small hotel with a range of roms from fan cooled to air con with TV, hot water and fridge, prices start at 100,000rp a night for fan cooled. In Desert point we staed at Armangati 2, small single room bingalows with cold water shower for 250,000rp a night, there ia an extremely limited range of accomodation at desert Point.
I think it is probably a little cheaper than bali and the food is cheap and plenty of nice restaurants.
