There are a bunch of Ayam Taliwang restaurants in Chakra, but beware, it is very very hot, and it is the only time I've got sick eating in those places.
Lombok is famous for their tempe, and pelecing (kangkong with hot sambal, coconut and sprouts). Many locals eat that with rice for breakfast lunch and dinner.
If you want to try local food and you are a bit adventurous, there is a nasi warung in Mangsit on the beach side of the road, just after Qunci Villas, right at an opening to an empty field between Qunci and Holiday Resort - the woman there is a very good cook. Food is pre-cooked (but bought fresh every morning) and served either on a plate there, or wrapped in brown paper for bunkus (take-away). We take away as there are too many flies around to make eating comfortable and it's a bit hot there. They don't speak english, so hopefully there will be a beach seller there who can translate what you want (it is where most of the locals in that area eat). Try some rice with tempe, fish and/or chicken, and pelecing or whatever sayor they have - tell them no sambal, or sedekit unless you like it hot.
It costs about Rp8,000 depending on how many pieces you have.
