Unfortunately the millenium goals at present appear to be nice symbolic words and rhetoric.They are also woefully inadequate to really tackle poverty given their weak targets and the persistent refusal by wealthy nations to abide by the spirit of the agreement. For example, our current government has declared they have a "new" approach to aid and development in the Pacific-but their approach is just a rehash of the last govt's PACER strategy-there are clear indications that they are using aid to achieve a free trade agreement that will spell the death of a large proportion of the manufacturing industry of small,poor Pacific nations resulting in the loss of many jobs.
Anyway, I dont think we can have this discussion properly in this forum....merry xmas
