have found it much less time consuming if you had simply paid the US$20 per day per person for the one day overstay at the airport when leaving. Did you check to make sure your stay is one day over because if you are flying back to Perth on the 2am flight maybe you could be through immigration before 12pm and not have to pay the extra day.
