I had Typhoid, the fever lasted for 12 days. I found it impossible to eat during that time. Make sure your friend has plenty of fluids.
The sports style drinks containing electrolytes seem to be a good idea.
I actually lost 12 kilo in weight during those 12 days. However I have since found them along with a few more.
