Over on Lembongan a few months back I had partaken in a few home made arak drinks (well, several). When I arrived in Sanur fellow tourists told me about the mates they knew that went blind from arak poisoning. Then the next day (and for the next 2 weeks!) I get horrifically blood shot eyes and of course I was beside myself and stopped drinking, especially arak. Course it was conjunctivitis, but I didn't know at the time and thought I'd had one too many araks!
