Unless you have some serious savings I doubt very much you could live on $1200 a month. For starters rent has to be paid in advance eg if you rent for 12 months, 12 months rent, I'm presuming you are a westerner you'd no doubt require AC, hot water. electricity is expensive. Then you have the transpport costs, whther you taxi or buy a bike (you didn't mention your disability so I'm guessing you are ambulant)
Perhaps go for two months and see how you manage. Then sort out the visa requirements to live there.
