Dont buy anything on the first day - get a bit of a tan (so you look like a local) and the first thing to buy is sunglasses and a hat (20,000 each) $2.60. Otherwise you will get hasseled every day to buy them.
Dont let the porters at the airport carry your bags (they will expect a tip when they put you in a taxi.)
Get some money cards made up and laminated to take with you. I just go on a currency conversion website and make up a little business card size cards on the computer so you can look at them when you are bartering.
Am going there on 1st Jan for the 3rd time - cant wait!!!!!
