can't change at the airport in Bali as the banks are on the other side of immigration. Choices are to change here at banks or post office (you can check rates on the web for the banks, but if you live away from a capital city as I do, they don't seem to carry $us cash and you have to order in and get whatever the rate of the day is - yes crazy, I know....)Alternatively, pay the VOA in $Aus if you are Australian and wear the slightly poor exchange rate they give us, but save the commission on exchange here, then change your money in Bali where you will get the best rate. The bank at the airport has always been open when I have arrived even at 10pm at night, although I beleive if you are severely delayed, they may close up shop.
I was delighted to discover some rupiah in a back pocket of my wallet the other day, which I had forgotten I had put there after returning last time. Enough to get me to the hotel on arrival and I can change money the next morning.
