Well we've been back home nearly 2 months and have been too busy to do a JBR so this is a great chance to share my most memorable experience.
Bit of background stuff for your info..have been going to Bali every year for the past 11 years and the passion just gets better each time. In fact we have already booked our flights for next year in Aug 09 (yes, got those cheap ones with Virgin from Brisvegas).
We do sponsor 2 children from SD3 Kuwun school (the old SD7 Sembung) and of course had planned to visit them during our last visit. Before we actually left to go to Bali this year I had been talking to my boss (I might add I work for a bank) about our sponsored kids and the things we like to take over there. He mentioned that we had nearly $1000-00 in our fundraising account that our district had raised monies for charities and was just sitting there in an idle fashion not helping anyone and would I like it to take to Bali to give to the school?? Of course I would, so I quickly rang Noel Allen and said that we would like to donate this money to the school and preferred something tangible like a computer to be bought for the kids.
The memorable moments came when we met Agung at the school who came loaded with the computer and printer complete in boxes. It was really a wonderful moment to hand these items over to the school and just to see their happy faces at being the happy owners of a computer.
Our sponsored children were there at that point also, so their grins were just endless. The teachers could not stop thanking us.
It truly was a great experience!! I'm sure lots of training will have to be done to even get the teachers up to speed but at least now the kids will have this opportunity to be able to use the computer and hopefully be able to send an email back to us..their sponsors.
Once the computer and printer was set up, the teachers wrote a letter of thanks to our district and printed the letter out with their new printer. It was like Xmas for them.
Thanks to Noel and Agung for arranging the computer to be delivered on the day we went to the school...they made the experience happen.
And there's more...apparently there was even money left over to buy some sporting equipment for the school. Amazing how $1000 goes so far over there.
So that was my most memorable experience from our last trip. There is always one each year but this was truly difference...
