I remember my favourite stuck in a down pour moment.
About 18 years ago my husband and I, very young, very poor and on a mission to have adventure rented a Jimmney? is that what it was called? and spent a month driving around Bali during the wet season, most of the time we were lost, but we loved every minute.
Late one day driving from Singaraja towards Ubud we were caught in the most incredible down poor and couldn't see so pulled over at a hotel on the top of a hill, it had a big sign saying grand opening and we decided to spend up big and eat in a real restaurant, the view from here was amazing and we could see this massive electrical storm miles away along the coast. We ended up talking to the staff and looking at their rooms, as they has no guests my husband bargained them down from some huge amount to about $30.00 for the night, this was 3 times what we had been paying but it had hot water! I was so excited and the room was lush. In the morning the view from our veranda looked all the way to the coast and to our delight we found we were across the road from Git git waterfall which is where we were headed!
I just remember it as this magical warm comfortable night where my husband was my hero for getting us this kingdom of a room, I often think of going back to see if it is still there and what it's really like but I don't want to spoil the memory, by our standards today it is probably not the grand palace I remember.
