Hi Trace
We've stayed at the Grand Istana Rama 4 times and love this hotel and the staff. The hotel is located right across the road from the beach, has a great variety of food for breakfast and is close enough to the action if you want that but far enough away so you don't get disturbed by it, and it's only a short walk to go shopping.
We always stay in the Deluxe Room, which are interconnecting if that's what you want/need. Not having kids, I don't know what the family rooms are like.
