the trip back seemed quicker than the trip to lembongan.... we had a cocktail on the way back but only one as the seasickness was setting in.
Back to the Jayakarta and booked into rooms again on the 400 block. This time we were down the pool end so hoped that the builders wouldnt bother us. No such luck. if anything it was worse. Back to reception. sorry can only move you for 2 days, that wasnt really any good so we decided to just put up with it.
As i said before the grounds were fantastic, three pools although the swim up bar was unattended except to sell beer during happy hour. We were extremely disappointed as the boss loves to chat over a drink or ten at the swim up bar. We couldnt believe that being full, they wouldnt take advantage of opening the swim up bar, they would have made a fortune.
Most people ended up bringing their own drinks to the pool as you could hardly get any service. Bintangs (large) were as good as $10 once you added the 21%. No bloody way anybody was going to pay that for a week or 2. Cans of coke etc were $4 so we didnt drink much at the pool. Food was also pricey, I was pretty surprised - it was much more expensive than the Dynasty.
over 60 people got ear infections because the pools werent clean (the chlorinater broke down) 3 in our group got ear infections, all the day before flying home so in came the doctors.. the day we left they shut the big pool down as it was a cessy looking green color, beautiful! They just werent putting chlorine in it at all. Several people we met were trying to get out of the hotel and stay somewhere else.
around the edge of the south pool on the tiles was a layer of scum. It was very slippery you had to be careful. One lady who arrived, put her bags into the room, down to the pool for a swim, slipped on the tiles and broke her arm. $1800 at the BIMC and no swimming for her for the whole holiday. The manager of the hotel didnt want to know about it.
there were a couple of accidents with the sun lounges, falling apart, the back of the one my husband was lying on just collapsed, he wasnt happy - having a back problem anyway. He wasnt as unlucky however as the lady who went to put her chair up one level to read, and the bit that holds you up broke, cutting her 2 fingers open (almost cutting them off!) off to the BIMC she went, lots of stitches, no more swimming for her either, again management didnt want to know.
I think this hotel has potential if they spend some money fixing it up a bit, I know lots of people love it, but when full to capacity the cracks were showing. If you have kids and want to use the kids club it wasnt open all the time.
On the good side, beds were comfy, aircon worked well, brekky was good, location fantastic. grounds the best i have seen, towels and sheets clean and soft,
Would we stay here again? the boss never would, i probably wouldnt either.
more to come
