Just been trying to work through this stuff too Deb but even more immediate. We're leaving in a few days. I've been waiting to see if the dollar would rise and it did-but some finance buffs say it will drop again before the end of the week. So I'm off to the P/O tomorrow to just buy the USD for our accommodation and be done with it. As you say it eliminates the uncertainty.
One thing though: the Post Office said they "didnt think" the notes would be before 2000(going to the same hotel)but couldnt be sure. Dont know how you can get a guarantee of this? Bank perhaps? Their rates arent as good....
