Returned from Bali Sunday October 5th 2008, Stayed near Jayakarta Hotel, walked through it every day and was glad I was not staying there. Too big, I had friends stay there a couple of years back and was surprised how small their rooms were.
With regards to the double bookings recently, this came about because of Ramadan. People staying there had to have noticed the huge influx of Moslem people coming to Bali for the Ramadan break. Thankfully Ramadan is not at the same time each year, this is the first time I have experienced it in 20 annual visits and all accommodation appeared to be pretty well fully booked in Legian, Kuta, Tuban, Seminyak. People who had bookings were being turned away and made to find other accommodation which was totally wrong. I could not believe the extra traffic and vehicles at the Jayakarta. Traffic around Kuta and Legian was horrific during this time also because of the Holiday makers who had come down from Java and other parts of Indonesia. Also it was interesting to see how many businesses were closed over that period, most Tailors were unable to have garments made because the sewing is usually done by staff that are Moslem and they were on Holiday. Hopefully I never get to experience this time of year again.
