Just returned from Bali yesterday after 15th trip and have always wondered about the beggars particularly the children at night on the beach roads and the mothers with babies or small children attached and always asleep? One particular incident was most upsetting when a mother was walking the streets with her 5 year old who had a large pulsating lump on the top of his head and she was pointing to it and asking for money. When I asked a stall holder she said they often don't get medical treatment because the child or person is a money earner. I saw the mother hours later still walking the child around. How much is legitimate and how many are taking advantage I never know what to do as you can't give to all I usually give to the ones who really tug at the heart strings.
