One of the big problems is that the Balinese put the prices up for Idul Fitri for the domestic market. The trouble is that the domestic market do not spend money on booze and food like we do so they do not really think this out. Quite often even the breakfast menu is dictated by whatever market is staying at the hotel.
Whilst I realise the prices have gone up, it is most unfortunate that the average workers have not received any pay increases. The hotels are capitalising at the expense of the workers.
When one compares the prices where I usually stay it is all about relevence. If the dollar is getting 7000idr the equation is to multiply the cost of the accomodation by 7 and in your own mind ascertain whether you would pay that amount for a hotel room of equivalent standard in Australia. If you look at most menus at average hotels the cost of a meal is usually quite close to the Australian equivalent, e.g. 25,000idr and in Aust $25. Some people may scoff at this comparison but if you travel quite often it has to be that way. If, however you are on holidays, most people could not care less what the costs are as it is a once in a year affair. I travel at least 10 time per annum and I require value for money as the more I save the more I can go. Any way Food fo Thought.
Lastly the price increases are typical Balinese mentality, no tomorrow.
