what happens with their hotel occupancy for 2009. I'm in Canada and regularily travel to Bali...and organize groups there as well. I started getting the rates for 2009 a few months ago. It was a kind of happy/sad moment. Happy that they are busy enough to start charging more but sad that Bali is not going to be the affordable place that it once was.
The USA is experiencing a real slow down in the economy which I know has also affected Canada and Europe. One wonders if there will be less visitors from these areas due to lack of disposable income and then top that off with others that just won't go to Bali due to the higher hotel costs in 2009. It could be intertesting to see if the hotels are able to maintain their high occupancy rates. It does appear that many hotels are already sold out for specific time periods in 2009 so that would certainly encourage the Management to keep the rates high.
I've also noticed that the rates are changing at many hotels starting April 1.09 so I guess if you can go before then, get booking!!!
Bottom line is I hope the local Balinese benefit from these increases. It should mean more jobs which would be welcome by many.
