others might be able to answer in more detail but from what I understand you really do need a license. If the cops pull you over you'll be in all sorts of s**t if you don't have one. Also you prob wouldn't be covered under your insurance if you have an accident - need to check your policy carefully as to what they'll cover re: riding scooters/bikes. Do you need a bike license in AUS to be able to get an international bike license - I'm not sure. My husband has one and I'm going to organise his Int D/license before we go to Phuket next year. Maybe you don't need a license to drive a scooter?? but I would have thought you do.
