we flew to perth via jakarta with garuda last july.

We waited to buy our duty free at jakarta as we were changing planes but we saw a perth group get their DF on board despite having bought it in Bali and having it opened ! This was despite the checks before going into the departure lounge where bottles of water were confiscated.

I think getting away with this obvious breaking of the rules depends on who is manning the desk at the time.

We flew home from perth to sydney with Virgin and checked to see what the rules were for domestic flights. Pleased to say they allowed 5 LITRES to be taken as cabin luggage !!!
My best advice would be to check with the airline about their policy, I've read on the forum of people travelling with Jet star who have had their grog confiscated after having bought it at denpassar airport duty free.

Hope this helps.
