My experience and understanding with FEDEX is that on top of the freight cost, you can pay insurance on the item. This is US$13 or 1% of the value of the goods (whichever is the greater). You may wish to check again with your local FEDEX office, if you were to do a claim, what verification documentation etc. they would require to expedite your claim.
