Perhaps the simplest process would be for to leave the purchase of alcohol until you returned to Sydney. Then buy it at duty free before you get to Australian immigration. Coming into Australia you are allowed 2.25 litres each. When entering Bali you are only allowed half this amount.
What my wife and I always do is buy a litre each before we leave Oz, have a few snorts while in Bali (we never get through the lot) and if there is about half a bottle or more left over, tightly seal this and brink it back in the suitcase. Australian customs do not worry about part full bottles of alcohol. Cheers, Mitch (the second)
