Would highly recommend that you stay at least one night in Lovina as there is way too much to see in one day. Just the drive up there will take you half a day with many photo stops as there are many sights along the way like Lake Bratan and the Pura Ulun Danu temple often called "the floating temple" at Bedugal and with the exception of Tanah Lot probably the most photographed Temple in all of Bali.
Just before you get to Bedugal though you will pass thru Candi Kuning a small township with a huge marketplace, while there call into Crackers Bar & Grill for lunch and say gidday to Dave who runs the place, before heading off to see the Git Git Waterfalls.
Around the Lovina area there are the Banjar Hot Springs and Sing Sing Waterfall, not to mention Bali's best sunset from your absolute waterfront hotel at Lovina Beach. Wake up mext morning early and take a boat ride out to the dolphins before breakfast. Then there is exploring Singaraja which when under Dutch rule was once Bali's capital.
Even suggesting that you stay overnight still isn't enough time to truly enjoy Bali's north which takes in almost 1/3 of Bali's coastline, we usually stay at least 2 or 3 nights, take your time and take it all in.
Enjoy
Cheers
