I drive myself these days, just be sure to get a International Lic before you go (see links below) that will keep the Polisi happy if you are pulled over. DIY lets you travel about at your own pace it's all part of the adventure. As far as Singaraja (which means Lion King) goes it is a quiet town with some nice old Dutch heritage warehouses on the waterfront. There is some accommodation there but you would be better to stay at nearby Lovina Beach about 10klms to the west. Lovina has undergone a spruce up recently and the beaches were pristine clean when we visited last month. I would suggest a stay at either the Aditya with bungalows only meters from the waters edge or for a bit of luxury The Bali Paradise Hotel which has 5 star luxury but only 3 star price (about US79 a double incl breakfast).
