The no duty free / or any liquids on board rule is not to force you to drink their booze, its to prevent liquid explosives being caried on board. Most places will allow you to purchace and carry on duty free after you have been through the security screening, but there are a few who will not( depends on the risk factor) and you can't if you are transiting through another international airport. From Manila there is still a complete bad on all liquids on board.
Last year when we departed Bali, Qantas would not allow duty free on board even though Garuda would. I guess Qantas dont trust the security at Denpasar airport (wonder why) Qantas staff also completely re checked all our hand luggage again before we boarded after we had just been through the airports security screening
