Hi Katy, if the guard you are talking about is one of the older guys on the gate then his name is Made Wideyana. Some years ago we stayed at the Melasti and my wife had her arm in a sling after a very badly dislocated elbow. 'Sarge' gave her some massage each day as we went in or out of the hotel. The next time we visited he recognised us straight away, and we got that smart salute that is his trademark. On our visit last year we found out from another guest that he had had a heart attack. Apparently one of the hotel guests who had known him a few years, paid for his rehabilitation. When we were back in Feb this year we found he had been put on the night shift. I like to think that management had done this to protect him from too much stress. 'Sarge' actually represented Indonesia in soccer, when he was in the army. He used to coach school kids in soccer at his home in Uluwatu. He is truly an amazing character.
