- Virgin legs was done directly with Garudavia e-mail, and I have to say that it was a pleasant experience with a very attentive employee named Toni Cole. I would recommend her to anyone. Garuda did give us a weight allowance for charity goods although it was a minimal amount for the 7 of us. Before going we freighted over 2 cartons weighing 27 kilos all up at a cost here of $350 addressed to an Indonesian friend in Bali. On arrival there Customs demanded a fee of Rp1.4 million even though they accepted that all the contents were used/second hand and were going to an orphanage as letters from the orphanage were pasted onto the cartons. The rules we had been given last year seemed to mean nothing and the debating skills of the local recipient had no effect. On the other hand, locally Garuda and Virgin staff were quietly very helpful with our excess baggage and I could not have hoped for a smaller bill from either of them.
Why must the Indonesians be their own worst enemy when help is offered?
