If it is uncomfortable for your mum to sit for long, you have to fly her business class or she will be in real discomfort physically and emotionally.
You will not get a cheap flight now anyway for Xmas so you may as well.
The only alternative is to give her a couple of stop overs, but that will cost even more unless she can stay in Darwin a few hours to walk around a bit.
