Hi Elly,
I have applied for and received quite a few 60 day visas from Indonesian Embassy at Maroubra in Sydney and you do need to show at least an itinerary from the travel agent of your flight into and out of Indonesia.
From my point of view it is best to get a 60 day visa here in Oz, going out and coming back in costs money and time.
For a 60 visa you DO NOT need a sponsor only if you need a social visa for up to a 6 month stay.
I have always applied for my visas in person but it is not a problem to post in your passport, flight details,two passport photos and money order.
I helped a young woman living out of Melbourne a couple of years ago to get a social visa ( one of friends in West Sumatra organised a sponsorship letter) and she posted her stuff into Melbourne and got her social visa- no problems.
