It feels more like paradise to me.
A few bad seeds, who are just trying to take advantage where they can, not really hardend criminals.
Most of the balinese people are extremely freindly and caring.
You can ussually tell the who the bad guys are fairly quickly during your interaction and walk away.
It is all part of the fun of the bartering system etc.
Take into account what people say on here, about where to change money etc, and you should have no troubles at all.
You really have to experience Bali to understand why people love it so much.
