We also are heading to Bali again next month...this will be trip 12! Here is my opinion of costs and a rough guide to what we allow.
Eating - can spend as little as $2 -3 and as much as $100 per person, but most places we eat at work out to around $20-30.00 for 2 with a few drinks each, and they are pretty upmarket places - not warungs. Favorites are Rumours, Tratoria, Ultimo, Panterei, Neros, TJs, Gateway to India, Kaima, Macaroni Club, and a World class place not to be missed Cafe Warisan! [a bit expensive though!!!! but worth it}
We normally budget around $100 a day for 2 people, for food, drinks, transport, some shopping etc etc, but you could easily do it for much less... or much more [There is a nice Bose store and Apple store in the new Carefour shopping centre!!!!!] it all depends on what you want to do. Live up large or chill! If you start drinking wine you will go through lots more...[bugger]
We just take Aust Dollars and keep in the Room Safe... just take out what you need each day and if you run short go back and get some more. Never carry large amounts on you for obvious reasons.
ATM machines are pretty well everywhere... We take money out if we run out of cash in the largest lumps you can as you pay per transaction I think it costs about $6.oo per trans. Different ATMS have different limits though, so just check first.
