You are right that a sample of blood must be taken in the middle of a Malaria attack. My doctor advised me to take a taxi to a hospital to give the blood sample as you cannot drive in the middle of a Malaria attack.

It was an anxious six months waiting for the laboratory results, as Malaria recurs whereas Dengue Fever does not recur, unless you are bitten again.

My father had Malaria several times while serving in PNG in World War Two. It is an unpleasant disease.

When I was knocked down with Dengue fever, I went to an Indonesian doctor in Kuta, whose diagnosis was that I had a sore throat. I knew he was wrong because of the severity of the symptons. It does not say much about his professional skills, as Dengue fever is common in Bali.
