I will be staying at the Swiss Belhotel Bay View in October in a 2bdrm apartment. When I was in Bali last year I did the grand tour of the hotel and was quite impressed. The hotel is not situated on the beach, although they have a shuttle to take you there. Kids may get a little bored as its not really near anything. Kuta about 20 - 25 min away. I use my visa and always take cash especially because the exchange rate in Bali is so good at the moment. I would probably not book a tour from the hotel due to the high cost. I am sure a lot of forumites may be able to recommend some good drivers (who speak relatively good English) who can take you on many tours for a fraction of the cost.
