but over the years we have got to know a lot of expats that we have become good friends with.Apparently it costs peanuts to repair most dings to a motor bike BUT keeping this in mind I am not saying you take my advice - all I am saying is how I feel. It's hard to understand your full situation from what you have said.
My husband has a full Aussie motorbike license so is entitled to a full International drivers licence that is endorsed for him to ride motor bikes any where in the world - including Indonesia.
We always have full travel insurance which covers us & any possible damges to a motorbike OR ourselves. It's up to you & sorry if you disagree but I think anyone who travels OS without travel insurance is a fool.
As far as I am concerned the "Piece of paper " re any possible insurance a motor bike hire place in Bali may or may not give you is probably NOT worth the paper it it is written on !
We always decline it.Just make sure you are properly licensed to ride the bike in the 1st place & have proper travel insurance & you will have nothing to worry about.Make sure you really read the fine print of your travel insurance document before you pay up for it !
My husband & I still ride/drive motor bikes in Bali - in spite of the fact that most of our expat friends hate us doing this.
