A nice thatched roof looks good from the outside and is attractive from the inside as you look up through the rafters. A well built freshly thatched roof will be as waterproof as you need but its a grass and will deteriorate over a number of years. In places like Bali labour is cheap and plentiful and things get redone periodically. If you really want the bali look you could batten over your colourbond roof and then fix the alang alang battons. In my opinion you would be better off building a little thatched bale in the back yard, complete with day bed and bali flags and getting your Bali fix that way.
