We had previously been advised that the notes had to be dated after 1996 and in good condition. This trip we had notes dated after 2000 and certain outlets including our favourite (fuji shop opposite Matahari) refused to take notes after 1996 and also those which were part of certain series (the letter preceding the number on the note). This meant that there was not one note in the $700 we had that they would exchange. I am not sure why this is and thank heavens we were fortunate enough to be able to exchange across the road on the left side of Matahari or we would have been in trouble. Perhaps others can enlighten us on what notes will not be accepted, however it will be near impossible to be so prescriptive when purchasing notes.
