I thought the Masa was good .. well excellent budget really and did a bit of research in that area on my stay a few weeks back.
As a solo lady - me personally I would go for a smaller hotel.
If you are specific to Kuta area I would look at in same budget bracket
Ida Hotel - Your Taxi /Driver can easily negotiate drop off at the hotel. Very Spacious yet private zoned hotel.
The winner could also be in my view Adhi Dharma Hotel - up from Poppies 2 JlBenasari but the guys will look out for you on the short lane. Close to everything.
Also and I know its a "secret" but I could stay at Rama Gardens on Jln Padma - yes beginning of Legian but everything also at your footsteps. Its slightly more $ than the others.
I havent stayed or been to other hotels on Garlic Lane mentioned by BTF they could well also fit your request.
