My grandmother fractured hers (front and back) when she was in her 80's. She was in a rehab hospital for about 3 or 4 weeks, and then was mobile enough to go home. She had assistance at home for a month or so also, but after that she was pretty much back to normal, and definitely did not take her two years to be walking to her local shops etc.
