we did a similar stopover in Jakarta last September and it was pretty bad but it was late at night waiting for the first flight out.
We weren't able to even get a cup of coffee and all the places close down except the transit hotel, which closed the restaurant/bar for cleaning during the time we tried to use it.
the airport lounges all close and the only option is to lug all your luggage around with you. the toilets are pretty bad and you need a very strong stomach.
if it is daytime you will have no worries but if it is late night then pay the $70 US and have a comfortable night.
good luck, I will not do that particular trip again but now go via Kuala Lumpur with Air Asia.
