Each day when I would do what I thought was a power walk along the beach front I used to laugh at how many offers of "transport" that came my way!
The concept of deliberate exercise is a bit foreign to many Balinese I think! I might add many a day when I was walking in the heat with a blazing red face I couldn't blame them for offering - they probably thought I was about to collapse and I did look like a candidate for a fare and I wont lie - I was often tempted!
Along with this walk would be the newspaper sellers (amongst sunglasses, watches massages etc) and on many occasion I would return to the hotel with 2 or 3 papers that were well over 24 hours old but hey at least a balinese family may have had chicken with their rice that night!!!
It is all good and when I am hassled I view it that they are just doing their job - the difference is of course that when we agree to their services it is often the start of a much longer association.............
The natural beauty of Bali resides in the Balinese people!
