Hi Balimagic.. I know what your talking about because we have witnessed the same thing and no doubt its the same hotel.. We met a guy a couple of years ago (a Swedish tourist) that was actually threatened by one.. It wasnt nice. He wasn't staying in the same hotel as us and when he left after the argument we feared for his life.. Thank god he was ok and was due to go home the next day anyway.. Needless to say we changed hotels.. Have been back there since and seen them coming in all the time. The gang is called Laskar Bali. They apparently control the security at nightclubs etc. You will find that the police are frightened of them.
It hasn't stopped us going to Bali but we are more vigilant.
