i get what you are saying, but you compared the raising of the host, the most important part of mass, to "step on a crack, break your mothers back" When we were kids and we drove over train tracks, we'd lift our feet off the floor. I can't remember for the life of me why, but i think these are the types of superstitions the OP was on about.
