If you are a beach person then definately try Phuket - but also depends on the time of year you are travelling...from about June thru to Sep/Oct the beaches can be quite rough and not ideal for swimming...we went to Phuket last year in May and it was still beautiful at the beach, but starting to get rough...going back to Bali this October after a 8 year absence so looking forward to seeing how different it is now!
