Scoot Boat - Payment and transfers

Is it better to pay the fare in US$'s or let them convert.
I will possibly have a few hundred US so was wondering if better to pay the advertised amounts.

Also read about a couple of mixups using their transfer people from hotel so thought might be better to pay hotel driver. Any thoughts- there are 5 of us and transfers would be $24.
