In January we went to "the Living room" in Pettinget, quite upmarket great food 3 mains, two desserts, and nice surroundings,4 beers and a couple of cocktails, approx $120 Aus, that night Woody Allen came in to the bar at the club, 6 weeks before Mel Gibson was there, what i'm trying to say is that the prices are very reasonable based on the quality and standards of cuisine,i would say that your friend was way off the mark, most meals in reasonably good quality places like Koris, poppies,un's & nero's, Made's warung (great asian food) are very cheap and are only 60,000- $80,000 rupiah maximum, about $7-$9 Aus,and places like Ku De Ta, & cafe Warisan you will pay nearer to Australian prices ,but get a much higher quality of food and surroundings for the money you pay,you can get any drinks that you like in Bali and shop around until you find a place that you like,(but get out of Nusa Dua) as you will pay much more around there, get a taxi up to Kuta or to Laksmana st.(eat street)in Seminiak, or TJ's (great Mexican)and cheap,(can't wait to get back there)just one of many good places in Kuta, and check out the menu's or just do a search on the list.b4 you go, i think that Bali offers probably the best selections of foods and drinks to suit all tastes and budgets anywhere, imho.
