Lombok is the start of the Malaria zone. We spent 10 days in Kuta Lombok last January and didn't take anything but everyone else staying at the hotel were taking them. This trip we are doing Sumbawa as well and my understanding is that Sumbawa is more risky. So we will be taking them. One of the main problems is that some of them make you Sun sensitive which can be a bit of a problem. My understanding is that doxycyline (not sure of spelling) is the one with less side effects. I work with a doctor so will have a chat with him and ask for the one with least side effects before we go but might purchase them in Bali. Some of them you have to start taking a week before you go into the Malaria Zone.
