when we go to bali i always buy a bali sim card and put in my phone (have to make sure your phone is unlocked) and then send text messages, it is heaps cheaper than using my aussie phone, sorry not sure how it works for the states but might be similar, probably best to ask your service provider if there is a charge to send text messages providing you have international roaming on your mobile phone....hope this helps some...cheers Trace
